Background
Our client initially had plans for a small lap pool to be installed in the courtyard of their home in Mooloolaba, QLD but instead turned the space into a tropical garden. Over time, the courtyard space became overgrown and a bit of an eye sore. Sensing it was time for an upgrade of the space, the client commissioned the installation of a large aluminium awning to provide some shade for the area and once that was installed, figured the garden space was next!
The proposal included scope for a Medium Stacked Slate Urn Fountain Kit from Aquascape Australia and minor landscaping to be completed to remove the existing greenery, installing the urn and completing the surrounds with a few granite boulders, river stones and pebbles and some terrestrial plantings.
The project was estimated to be completed in 5 hours.
The Project
The project was completed by the United Waterscapes team in half a day. All unwanted garden material was removed from the site and disposed of at the local waste management facility.
Once the garden was cleared, a 1200mm x 1200mm excavation was opened up for the installation of the Aquascape Aquabasin 45. The Aquabasin was installed and levelled, and the excavation was back-filled so that the Aquasbasin was made stable as the base for the Aquascape Medium Stacked Slate Urn. The Medium Stacked Slate Urn is assembled in 2 pieces, so the base was installed first, levelled with wedges and filled with river pebble to stabilise the base. The Medium Stacked Slate Urn was also modified in the top reservoir section to custom-fit an Aquascape 1W LED light.
With the urn installed, our focus turned to completing the garden surrounds. Several small, hand-carry sized granite boulders were set in the landscape, and a hoop pine mulch distributed over the soil. Terrestrial planting included mosses, ferns, native violets and dichondras.
The Result
The customer was extremely pleased with the installation stating that it “Exceeded all of my expectations”. The urn runs 24/7 and has provided the ambience and scenery that the customer envisioned for the space. The plantings will grow in to fill out the garden space around the urn and frame the granite boulders.
