Aquatic weeds are unsightly and when left unchecked can choke up an aquatic ecosystem. Weeds can be managed by manual or
mechanical removal.

Dam Beautification

Dams can be beautified with the addition of boulders to create outcropping or waterfalls, and aquatic planting to soften the dam edge.

Aeration Systems

UNITED WATERSCAPES provide dam services for earthen bottomed ponds and dams in the Newcastle, Hunter Valley, Port Stephens, Central Coast and North Sydney regions of New South Wales.

Dam Aeration Systems are available in both Surface and Sub-Surface Aerator configurations and when installed correctly greatly improve water quality in dams and earthen ponds.

Surface Aerators are designed to move large volumes of water for improving water quality, and can produce an attractive plume of water to look at. These systems are best suited to dams and earthen ponds that are less than 2m deep.

Sub-surface Aerators use air compressors to push air through a hose to an air diffusing disk that sits on the bottom of the dam floor. These systems diffuse millions of tiny air bubbles up to the surface and are very effective at aerating deep dams or earthen ponds.

UNITED WATERSCAPES trust, supply and install AIR-O-LATOR CARNIVAL Surface Aerators and MATALA and VERTEX Sub-surface Aerators.

SURFACE AERATORS

Surface Aeration Systems are aeration installations that are installed on the water surface of the dam. These units consist of a pump attached to a floating dock and draw water from directly below the dock, spraying a plume of water through the air in various configurations.

Surface Aerators are a great option for improving dam water quality as they:

  • Create ripples on the surface of the dam water, increasing the surface area of the water available for gas exchange. This allows beneficial gasses such as Oxygen to enter the water, and emits non-beneficial gasses like Methane and Hydrogen Sulphide.

  • Destratify the water in the dam, drawing up cooler water from below and distributing the cooler, heavier water into the warmer water on the surface, creating circulation and increases oxygen levels in the deeper waters of the dam.

Surface Aerators may not be suitable if:

  • The dam is used for swimming, as there is a power cable in the water supplying power to the Surface Aerator unit.

  • The dam is deeper than 2.0m.

SUB-SURFACE AERATORS

Sub-surface Aeration Systems are aeration installations that utilise compressed air as opposed to a water pump. An air compressor is installed on land and sends air through an air pipe to an air diffuser that is located on the dam floor. The air passing through the air stone is diffused into millions of tiny bubbles that head straight for the water surface, drawing the cool, deeper water along with them that destratifies the thermal layering in the water table.

Sub-Surface Aerators are a great option for improving dam water quality as they:

  • are a cost effective solution compared to a Surface Aerators as the power requirement to push air is much less than pulling water with a submersible pump.

  • destratify the water in the dam, drawing up cooler water from below and distributing the cooler, heavier water into the warmer water on the surface, creating circulation and increases oxygen levels in the deeper waters of the dam.

  • can have the compressor installed remotely (up to 100m away) to be closer to an existing power supply, whilst still feeding air to the diffusing stones on the floor of the pond.

WEED MANAGEMENT

UNITED WATERSCAPES provide weed management services for earthen bottomed ponds and dams in the Newcastle, Hunter Valley, Port Stephens, Central Coast and North Sydney regions of New South Wales.

Our Weed Management service focuses on the control of weeds in dams, often resulting in a plan to:

  1. Physically remove the problematic weeds.

  2. Implement recommended water treatments and aeration options that will improve the overall health of the dam, reducing the food source available for weeds to proliferate.

Physical removal of the weeds in dams can be undertaken manually or with the use of heavy machinery such as an Excavator.

Aquatic Weed Spraying is an option in limited scenarios.

UNITED WATERSCAPES trust and supply Water Quality Solutions water treatments for dams such as BIOSTIM.
